New TB Control Law Enacted in 1951

 

Objectives

 

To prevent the individual as well as social hazards caused by TB, thus to increase the public welfare.
Three Major Components

 

Mass health examination : Tuberculin testing and MMR for those below 30 years of age.

 

BCG Vaccination : For tuberculin nonreactros.

 

Distribution of adequate methods of treatment.

 

Background for Enactment of TB Control Law

 

Several new tools, such as tuberculin testing, BCG vaccination, MMR and new methods of treatment including artificial pneumothorax were available through advances in TB research.

 

The aim of enactment of new TB Control Law is to distribute the benefits of advanced medical science to all Japanese irrespective of their residence or financial status.
